Ockbrook and Borrowash Neighbourhood Network calls for a collective 'NO' to proposed pylons

Independent councillors representing Ockbrook and Borrowash have taken to their social media page in a call for residents to give a collective 'NO' message to National Grid proposals for pylons through the two villages.

It comes as officials in Morley mount their own campaign against the scheme which involves miles of installations and runs of overhead lines across UK counties - and locally, a project links Chesterfield to Willington via the Erewash borough, with section 3 running from Ripley to Morley, as well as a fourth section which will run from Morley to Ockbrook and a fifth section from Ockbrook, leaving Erewash and running to and through Aston-on-Trent.

Following a consultation from May to September 2024, stages of the project run through to construction in 2028 and anticipated completion in 2031.

Alongside a petition by Parish Councillors to push for one pylon route over another, the Ockbrook and Borrowash Neighbourhood Network said that pylons would be "unsightly" and "scar our landscape and affect our homes." and claimed that there are cheaper alternatives but did not suggest what these were.

It said: "Instead of ruining our scenic countryside, we should be exploring cost-effective alternative routes. These alternatives are less intrusive and more in line with preserving the charm and integrity of our communities."

Finally, it called for local people to stand together and demand that National Grid consider "better options" concluding "Our environment, property values, and quality of life are at stake" and calling for people to "...speak up for a solution that respects both our purse and our surroundings."
