Stage 4 of the tour will see 100 of the world’s top male cyclists race through from Derby to Newark-on-Trent via Borrowash, West Hallam and Stanley Common.

To celebrate the exciting cycling event residents are invited to an ‘Erewash Celebrates Tour of Britain 2024’ event, organised in partnership with West Hallam Parish Council.  The event will be held at West Hallam Community Centre on Station Road from 10:30am, with the cyclists due to ride though the village at around 11:30am.

There will be a ‘Good luck from Erewash’ banner displayed at the side of the road, union flags will be handed out to the public to wave as the cyclists ride through, as well as several stalls promoting local sports and community groups such as Cycle for Health.

Councillor Josy Hare, lead Member for Community Health and Wellbeing, said: “How fantastic that this popular and renown sporting event will be coming through Erewash. It will be a great opportunity for the community to turn out and cheer the cyclists on and the council’s community health and wellbeing team are pulling out all the stops to make it as memorable as possible.”

The 86-mile (138.5km) route on September 6th enters Erewash at Borrowash and will go through Risley, Dale Abbey, West Hallam and Stanley Common.

The Tour of Britain is a major event in elite cycling and sees competitors from around the world race over six stages for the coveted winner’s place.

Over 1.5million people will watch from the roadside across the country and it will be televised in the UK and around the world.

The event will mean rolling road closures, temporary parking restrictions and 30/40 speed limits will be in place until around 1pm.

More details can be found on the road closures page on the borough council's website.
