Derbyshire Library Service staff have expressed being "thrilled" after receiving funding from Future Arts Centres to deliver a community arts project entitled: “Our Freedom: Derbyshire reflects on World War II”.
This project will take place in Ilkeston on Friday 25th July 2025 between 10:00am and 12:00noon. There is NO need to pre-book.
A big part of this project is to engage the local community, and groups in the community, right from the start. This project is an opportunity to reflect on the 80th anniversary of VE Day/VJ Day in the county to inspire creative activities and explore what freedom means to people in Derbyshire now.
How can we create an artistic response to this theme, together, in your community? One that inspires others to join in, that is created by you, with the support of local artists and the library service. Together, participants will be able to develop ideas for creative community events that will take place in Autumn 2025 - events that are uniquely Ilkeston, but which will be celebrated as part of a National Project.
The first stage in this process is to hold informal Community Collaboration session to start to reflect and discuss how residents would like the project to move forward in the community.
All are welcome to attend this fully funded and free session at any time, at which refreshments will be provided.
For more information, pop in to the library, call 01629 533275 or e-mail Anna or Jackie and the team at ilkeston.library @ derbyshire.gov.uk.
