Workplace mental health is the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day

Derbyshire County Council is supporting World Mental Health Day on October 10th.

This year’s theme, set by the World Federation of Mental Health, is workplace mental health.

The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and well-being in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.

At least one in six workers experience common mental health problems, including anxiety and depression.

Mental ill-health is a leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, accounting for 12.7% of all sickness absence days each year.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart said: “Talking about our mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs. Many of us will spend a significant part of our lives at work, so ensuring that our emotional and mental health in the workplace is well looked after is vital.

“We’re supporting World Mental Health Day, raising awareness of the workplace support on offer and encouraging you to check in with your friends, family, peers, and colleagues.”

Derbyshire County Council offers free mental health awareness training to increase the skills and confidence of Derbyshire organisations including staff and volunteers.
