The country will go to the polls on Thursday 4th July – meaning time is ticking for anyone who is not already on the electoral register.
Those whose names do not appear will not be able to vote in the General Election.
The deadline for registering to vote has passed as of 23:59 on Tuesday 18th June. The deadline for register for a postal vote passed at 5pm on Tuesday 19th June.
Erewash Borough Council has an annual canvass to ensure the register is up to date. It means residents who have responded will receive their poll card, but anyone who failed to respond or who has moved house or recently settled in the borough should take action now.
Polling stations are open between 07:00 and 22:00 on election day.
You can still nominate a proxy to vote on your behalf. You and your proxy must both be registered to vote.
The rules for voting by proxy have changed. If you applied for a proxy vote before 31st October 2023, this has expired and you need to apply again.
The deadline to apply for a proxy vote for the General Election is 5pm on Wednesday 26th June. Info is here: Apply for a proxy vote - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
You can also request an emergency proxy vote after this deadline if last-minute work commitments or a medical emergency mean you cannot vote in person. You can apply for this up to 5pm on polling day. Info is here: Emergency proxy vote | Electoral Commission
