Toby Freeman’s challenge to save lives from testicular cancer

The founder and CEO of a national charity is to take on the ultimate endurance challenge in 2025 - running over 500km in appropriate fancy dress to raise awareness of and funds for testicular cancer, the most common cancer in young men.

Toby Freeman from The Robin Cancer Trust, will take on some of the UK's toughest races, including the Brighton Marathon, London Marathon, running the length of Hadrian’s Wall, and a grueling 100km ultramarathon – all while getting the nation talking about testicular cancer.

Toby founded The Robin Cancer Trust after losing his brother, Robin, to testicular cancer at just 24 years old. His mission is simple: break the stigma, raise awareness, and save lives.

Testicular cancer affects 2,400 men every year in the UK, yet it is 96% curable if detected early. Toby is determined to make sure every man knows the signs, symptoms, and importance of self-checking and aims to raise £240,000 - that is £100 for every man diagnosed.

He describes the goal as "ambitious" but vital but said that funds raised would assist in engaging, educating and supporting every man who is diagnosed with testicular cancer in the UK, through the provision of school and workplace education programs, online campaigns, and direct support, adding that the funds would help save lives.

Toby wants to run with as many people as possible affected by cancer. Whether you’ve been diagnosed, know someone who has, or just want to support a life-saving cause, there are plenty of ways to get involved:

  • Join a run – take on part of the challenge with Toby, including running the length of Hadrian’s Wall with testicular cancer survivor Andy Hood.
  • Sponsorships & donations – help hit thr £240,000 goal.
  • Book Toby for an awareness talk, speech, or podcast – help spread the message.
  • Invite Toby to run with you – bring the challenge to your community.
  • Media & PR coverage – help amplify this life-saving campaign.

Toby said: "After losing my brother Rob to testicular cancer, my family founded The Robin Cancer Trust with one hope - that no other family would have to go through what we did. I’m taking on this Big Ballsy Challenge because I want to break the stigma of talking about our testicles - I want to show young men all across the UK that there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, and that checking yourself once a month could save your life. If I can make people laugh, we can start having serious conversations about our health - and that makes it all worthwhile!"
