Health and Social Care students at Derby College have raised £160 for a local charity.

The efforts of the Group 1 cohort will help Umbrella Derby and Derbyshire buy small bikes and tricycles for younger children at their centre.

Nicola Green, Project Manager of Play & Leisure Services at Umbrella Derby, visited the Roundhouse campus of DCG to share insights into the incredible work they do and to personally collect the generous donation from our students.

Student representatives Blessing Ukhuedobah and Arina Pakalna, who nominated Umbrella as their chosen charity, proudly handed over the donation. They were later joined by their classmates and teacher, Julie Thompson, to celebrate the achievement together.

Julie - who is Health and Social Care teacher said: "I’m so proud of our students for their hard work and generosity in supporting Umbrella Derby & Derbyshire. It’s inspiring to see them come together to make a real difference in the lives of local children and their families."

Umbrella is a Derby-based charity supporting disabled children, young people, and their families by providing tailored activities, services, and advocacy. Established in 1986, the charity helps individuals achieve greater independence and access opportunities to enrich their lives. Umbrella also offers vital respite and emotional support to families, empowering them to thrive.
