Shoppers, residents and motorists going about their business first thing on Saturday morning (16th) faced delays and diversions following an incident in the town centre on Friday night, with reports suggesting that it had involved a 'stabbing' although this has not been confirmed.
Derbyshire Police reported that one man has been "injured" and hospitalised, whilst another - a 38 year old - has been arrested. Officers were called to reports of a fight on Derby Road in the town at around 9:30pm on Friday evening. The road remained closed into Saturday morning to allow time for investigation work to be carried out, with some uncertainty as to when the road would be reopened.
Derby Road was showing on traffic reports as being closed in both directions from Chalons Way and White Lion Square to Albert Street. Bus services have also been diverted because of road closures and a number of police officers have been on duty protecting the scene at the top of Derby Road - a cordon being in place in the area around the barbers at the bottom of South Street, and to the Three Hoses public house. The condition of the victim is not yet known.
