Police officers have been involved in an operation to remove cannabis plants from a shop and flat above in Ilkeston.

The process on 17th July began after they had been found the previous day during a drug search and following the gathering of intelligence about suspicious activity with the electricity supply at the house, the location for which has not been detailed.

There have been a number of similar discoveries and seizures at properties in the town over recent weeks and months.

Sergeant Duffield of the Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "The electricity supply had been bypassed in both the shop and the above flat and was done in an extremely dangerous way that put the surrounding occupants and businesses at risk of fire.''

"This is our 6th grow in as many weeks and we estimate that the total street value of cannabis we have destroyed to be in excess of £5 million. This money goes on to fund criminality and puts our neighbourhood at risk from crime gangs and violence.  Please report any suspicious activity and we will actively enforce and target those individuals responsible.”

If you have concerns or information regarding similar activity in your area please contact Derbyshire Constabulary using any of the following contact methods:
