Police arrest man after Ilkeston shop thefts

Derbyshire Police officers have arrested a man and charged him with shop theft in Ilkeston.

Local Safer Neighbourhood Team officials made the arrest on Wednesday 11th September following reports made by the store.

The 24 year old, who comes from the town, but has not been publicly named, has been questioned, charged and bailed with strict conditions and will appear in court in due course.

Spokesman, PC Watson said: "Shoplifting has a detrimental impact not only businesses and high streets, but retail workers themselves who can be subject to unacceptable intimidation and violence. If found guilty, shop theft carries a custodial sentence of up to 7 years."

"We are continuing to work hard with retailers to target shop theft, the proceeds of which goes on to fund further criminality and antisocial behaviour in our community."
