A parish councillor has issued a call for a more inclusive and accepting world for everyone to start in two borough villages.
Elected member for Borrowash East and Chair of the Ockbrook & Borrowash Neighbourhood Network, Tania Stevenson said that Pride month is a vital time to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community.
A statement said: "It marks the progress made since the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and highlights the ongoing fight for equality. By promoting visibility and acceptance, Pride month helps combat discrimination and fosters a sense of belonging. It's a time for education, solidarity, and celebration of diversity. Let's honour the courage of those who paved the way and stand with those still fighting for their rights."
She asked everyone to "...embrace the spirit of Pride for the month of June and join in advocating for a more inclusive and accepting world for everyone, starting here in our community of Ockbrook and Borrowash."
Councillor Stevenson also provided an official statement on the subject from Ockbrook & Borrowash Parish Council, which said: "Happy Pride Month from Ockbrook and Borrowash Parish Council!. We are thrilled to celebrate love, diversity, and inclusion by proudly flying the rainbow flag on our three parish flagpoles throughout June.
This vibrant symbol reflects our commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community and promoting equality for all. Join us in celebrating Pride Month and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment.. Let's stand together and make Ockbrook and Borrowash a place where everyone feels valued and respected, whoever you love, whoever you are."
