Angelique Foster signs Oath of Acceptance

Following her election in the recent Police and Crime Commissioner elections, having deposed Hardyal Dhindsa, Derbyshire's Commissioner Angelique Foster has formally signed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office in the presence of the Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service at Derby City Council, Mr Paul Simpson.

After signing the Oath, Mrs Foster said, "I'm pleased to confirm my commitment to this role.  I intend to be a strong voice for the people of Derbyshire and Derby, listening to their view and delivering positive outcomes. 

"I want to ensure they are able to go about their daily business without fear of being victims of crime."

Every Police and Crime Commissioner is required to sign the declaration which confirms that they will act with integrity and diligence ion the role, will work to give a voice to the public and victims of crime, will be transparent in their decision making and will respect the operational independence of the Chief Constable and her officers.

The Oath reads:
I, Angelique Foster, of Dronfield, Derbyshire, do hereby declare that I accept the office of Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire.
In making this declaration, I solemnly and sincerely promise that during my term of office:
I will serve all the people of Derbyshire in the office of Police and Crime Commissioner.
I will act with integrity and diligence in my role and, to the best of my ability, will execute the duties of my office to ensure that the police are able to cut crime and protect the public.
I will give a voice to the public, especially victims of crime, and work with other services to ensure the safety of the community and effective criminal justice.
I will take all steps within my power to ensure transparency of my decisions, so that I may be properly held to account by the public.
I will not interfere with the operational independence of police officers.
