Neighbourhood Watch schemes receive funding boost thanks to Police and Crime Commissioner

Angelique Foster

Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) schemes across Derbyshire and Derby City have received funding grants to recruit new members and promote their work.

As part of her plans to improve community resilience and utilise the skills and support of residents, Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster has awarded 10 funding grants to local Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) schemes.

The funding has been allocated through the Commissioner's 2023-24 Neighbourhood Watch Support Fund (NHWSF) and will support her work to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime across Derbyshire and Derby City's communities.

Applications have been managed and vetted by the Commissioner's delivery partner, Derbyshire Neighbourhood Watch Association Trust (DNWAT), to ensure they support the drive to increase membership and visibility of NHW across the county.

Successful schemes have received grants of up to £300 to fund additional resources such as personal alarms, street signs, crime reduction postcards, bin stickers and newsletters/booklets.

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster said: "Neighbourhood Watch has a valuable role to play in the fight against crime. By establishing positive support networks in our communities and reducing isolation, they are helping to build strong and resilient communities that are more resistant to crime.

"I have prioritised the expansion of NHW and other voluntary schemes in my Police and Crime Plan, recognising the importance of partnership work to prevent crime. I am grateful for their contribution and am pleased to support their continued growth to ensure residents continue to feel safe."

Among the schemes to benefit is Risley Neighbourhood Watch which has been allocated £253.09 for Good Neighbourhood of the Year trophies and support for a crime prevention and fraud awareness event.
