Man arrested after multi-vehicle accident closes major borough road

Erewash Police officers have arrested a man following a serious accident that closed a major road through the borough.

The incident, which involved a number of vehicles, and saw a multi-agency emergency response, occurred just before 12:30pm on Friday 16th August on the A6096 Ladywood Road through Dale Abbey.  The road was closed in both directions for several hours whilst investigation and clean up work was carried out.

A Derbyshire Police statement said that one person was hospitalised but the severity of their injuries was not immediately known, however, it added that a man in his 20s had been detained in connection to the incident. He was also hospitalised as a result of the accident but is not thought to have life-threatening injuries.

The road was initially closed in both directions between Cat & Fiddle Lane and Arbour Hill, affecting bus services connecting the borough with Derby City.  Early indications were that the road could be closed until the course of Saturday 17th August but the westbound lane was reportedly reopened between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on the evening of the day of the accident, and both carriageways were made available by around 10:00pm.
