Officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Policing team have, once again, partnered with Derbyshire Trading Standards officials after a local shop was reportedly selling illegal tobacco and vaping products.
In carrying out the operation, 1,060 cigarettes, 1.25kg of tobacco and 287 vapes were seized with a combined value of £5,800.
A statement said that selling illicit vapes, or any vapes illegally, is a very serious offence and that penalties reflected this. it also said that the illegal vaping market not only undermines other retailers who are operating and trading within the law, but it is also driving more young people to start experimenting with vapes and risk addiction.
It also warned that many of these types of vapes are oversized and contain illegal quantities of nicotine, and added that the open trading of illicit vapes is of great concern and demonstrates that some retailers’ completely disregard the health and safety of their customers and the local community.
The latest operation comes just days after a previous operation was detailed in whch £2,500 of illegal tobacco and vaping products were seized, again, from a shop in the Long Eaton area.
