Officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team have issued a warning to owners of motorbikes, moped and scooters after seeing an increase in attempted theft and thefts.

A statement said that instances are often of an opportunistic nature with thieves riding around looking for parked, insecure bikes to target and added that it only takes seconds for an unsecured bike to be taken so asked owners to remember to secure their property every time it is left, even if just for a few minutes.

Stolen scooters are increasingly being used to commit further crimes such as phone snatches.  Local police officers hope that extra measures applied by owners could help reduce other crimes.

REMEMBER:

Lock, chain, cover Always remove the keys Fit an alarm if possible  Property mark the parts Keep it in a garage or shed at home where possible
