With just 45 days as UK Prime Minister, and going down on record as the Premier serving the shortest period in UK political history, Liz Truss has tendered her resignation, triggering another leadership contest which looks set to be completed within 7 days, with Ms Truss only staying on until the process is complete.Erewash MP Maggie Throup has taken to social media to give her thoughts on this latest moment of turbulence for the Conservative Goverment.
She said: "It is entirely right that the Prime Minister has accepted responsibility for the mistakes that have been made by her Government and has resigned as Leader of The Conservative and Unionist Party.
"I am acutely aware of the challenges faces by many of my constituents as we head into Winter, and it is therefore in the national interest for the Party to elect and unite behind a new Leader and Prime Minister at the earliest opportunity next week."
