A Sawley scout group will be able to access funding thanks to a new 25 year lease granted by Erewash Borough Councils Executive on 6th September.
The lease was granted to the trustees of the First Sawley All Saints Group of the Scout Association for land and buildings off Beresford Road, Long Eaton.
The well-established group has more than 100 members, including two Beaver groups, two Cub Packs, a Scout Troop and a Adventure Scout Troop, who use the building on a regular basis on week nights.
The renewed lease means the group will be able to access funding provided by the Scouts Association which will allow them to apply for planning permission to re-develop the facility. This development would help secure the ongoing viability of the group and assist with allowing them to expand and secure new members.
Councillor Michael Powell, Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning, said: So many young people in Sawley have benefitted from being part of the Scout Association here over the years. We are therefore pleased to show our support by renewing the lease, and we really hope that it will help them in their quest for funding to re-develop the facility so that it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
