Ilkeston menswear retailer expands into City

The empty shop in Nottingham, awaiting stock, customers and branding

A family owned clothing retailer which began life in the borough has expanded by preparing to launch a third store in a nearby city.

Henry George Menswear first opened in Ilkeston in 2019 but is due to open in Nottingham in mid-May - a sign that the firm has continued to successfully build on its local roots and comes after it opened a store in North Nottinghamshire.

Operations Manager Ashley Allen said: "We’re really pleased that we have been able to negotiate the deal for our Bridlesmith Gate store with him. Nottingham is close to our flagship store in Ilkeston, but with it being a busy city centre it offers a different scale of customer base and a great opportunity for us to grow the Henry George Menswear brand there."

Company Director, Luke Slaney added: “Our plan was to open at least five stores across the East Midlands in five years and we are close to fulfilling these targets within our first two years of trading. All this goes to prove is that with the right team and hard work, anything is possible.”

The hope is to continue expanding the business to become a reputable high street name, all from its first store in Erewash.
