Ilkeston Ladies gym offering 10 Workouts for a £10 donation to local charity

An Ilkeston-based ladies gym is seeking to raise funds for its yearly breast cancer awareness campaign by offering local women the opportunity to do ten work outs for a £10 donation.

Curves, owned and run by local businesswomen Sally Peacock will ensure that all donations go to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Speaking about the cause, Sally said: “As a women’s gym this is close to our hearts as we have many breast cancer survivors amongst us and it’s also in memory of those who have passed.

"October is always a great month in the gym as we do fun things to raise money and awareness and this year, we wanted to take it a step further and create an opportunity for any local woman who isn’t a member to join in and take that first step.

"We asked our members to suggest a local charity and Nottingham Hospitals Charity was mentioned multiple times. They will use our funds to support the Nottingham Breast Institute which some of our members have used, and to fund local research into breast cancer. We’re delighted to say 100% of your £10 donation will go to this charity.

"We want to encourage women to experience the benefits of Strength training which can not only improve balance, co-ordination and mental health, it also reduces your risk of diseases like cancer and diabetes. We’re not just about weight loss, we’re committed to improving the quality of women’s lives and making their daily routine a lot easier.”

Health experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week (i.e. 30 minutes, 5 times a week), plus muscle strengthening activity that involves all the major muscle groups 2 or more times a week. The Curves circuit is specifically designed for women. The workout combines Strength Training with cardio and stretching – all in just 30 minutes – to develop lean muscle, raise metabolism, burn fat and tone up. There is always a Curves Coach on hand to help you get fit and gain strength.

Curves Ilkeston opened in 2005 on Bath Street and relocated to Awsworth Road in 2011. Sally is very proud of all members’ achievements but especially of the 34 members who have all achieved over 1000 workouts showing that commitment to your health and wellbeing is ongoing.

Sally added: “The fact we have so many members that have achieved such an incredible amount of workouts, and quite a few more that are close is testament to our members’ hard work plus the fact our workout really works and it’s fun! We know you won’t stick at anything you don’t enjoy and we aim to make workouts enjoyable for even the most reluctant exerciser. At just 30 minutes in total and with a Coach too, you probably won’t get a better offer!”
