Ilkeston care home garden to receive Princes' Trust renovation (project 6th-22nd October)

A care home garden in Ilkeston is to undergo a renovation project thanks to the Prince’s Trust Team from the Warwickshire College Group in Ilkeston, with the aim to give back to the community as part of their course.

The Canal Vue Care Home site is to benefit from the Trust who are working in support of The Queen’s Green Canopy - a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invited people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a tree for the Jubilee”.

Everyone from individuals to scout and girl guiding groups, villages, schools, and corporations will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees from October when the planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee in 2022.  With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting trees to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership of the nation, which will benefit a future generation.

The Ilkeston project will be completed within a 10 day time frame and work commences on the 11th of October.  In order to raise funds, the team will be taking part in a sponsored gym session where the team will run, cycle and row to Skegness – well 92 miles at Rutland Sports Centre on the 1st of October 2021.

They are also holding a couple of coffee mornings from 10am to 12noon at Victoria Park Leisure Centre, Ilkeston on 6th October and Canal Vue Care Home, Ilkeston on the 8th of October 2021.  All proceeds will support the funding for the tree planting.

The team will also be holding a market stall on Thursday 7th October on Ilkeston Market Place with a few old favourites like: Tombola, Guess The Name of The Teddy and How many Sweets in a Jar.

You can get involved by donating any plants, trees and shrubs from 11th October to 20th October.

The project will be formerly opened by The Mayor of Erewash, Cllr Donna Briggs on 22nd October at 11.00 who will cut the red ribbon and the team will be delivering speeches about their experiences.
