Futures Housing Group has successfully completed a best practice Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit, conducted by the British Safety Council. The grading shows the housing association's commitment towards the continual improvement of its health and safety management systems.

The organisation underwent a comprehensive and robust evaluation of its occupational health and safety policies, processes and practices over the course of four days in October, which included documentation reviews, interviews with senior management, employees and other key stakeholders.

Dean Tonks, Health Safety & Environment manager at Futures said: "This is some achievement and shows that collaborative working among team members, management, executive and board can bring positive outcomes. We should now benchmark this grading and aim to become even stronger, making Futures a safer and healthier place for all."

The audit measured performance against key health and safety management best practice indicators and a detailed review of almost sixty component elements. Futures was awarded a five star grading following the audit which is reflective of a best practice organisation.

Mike Robinson, CEO at British Safety Council, said: “The award of a five stars is an outstanding achievement and is reflective of a proactive organisation which is committed to continual improvement in its health and safety arrangements and managing risks to workers’ health, safety and wellbeing. Futures should be very proud of this achievement.”

Ian Skipp, Group Finance & Resource Director at Futures said: “Last year we received three stars, so we were determined to put ourselves forward again for another audit this year to show just how much we’ve improved. I’m very pleased of this well-deserved result and proud of all those involved for making this grading possible."
