Fundraisers rally to raise money for Peyton

Fundraisers are working to prepare for an event in Ilkeston during August to help raise funds to pay for treatment for a bubbly 7-year old.

Peyton suffers with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy and needs an operation to help her walk, but at a cost of £21,000.

The condition is a form of physical disability caused by brain damage, rather than an illness.

Fundraising first started for a procedure called SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) to remove the spasticity from her body only to be told that she did not meet the relevant NHS criteria for this, and this led to the figure of £21,000 being given before the pandemic struck and the country went into lockdown.

Peyton's condition then worsened meaning that she was no longer able to do the things she did as mobility became restricted but this did mean she was then meeting NHS criteria for treatment. However, her condition continued to worsen with a need for surgery to lengthen her tendons as soon as possible, but her SDR surgery date was then cancelled.

Another appointment with the SDR team is scheduled at some point in July or August 2022 to discuss the next steps and whether or not the treatment will be self-funded but fundraisers are trying to prepare for the worst case scenario to ensure Payton can get the treatment needed as soon as possible irrespective of the outcome.

So, in the meantime, to help Peyton retain all the progress she has made after tendon lengthening surgery went ahead, fundraising is being made to obtain private orthotic care.

A fundraising event has been set up for Saturday 20th August at The Mallard Public House in Ilkeston, with lots of things happening ranging from pony rides, craft stalls, a raffle, a bouncy castle, and a chance to win £100 cash for a £1 date in the diary, plus a chance to win a caravan holiday and lots more.
