Feedback shows the impact of Immediate Justice in reducing crime

Derbyshire Police are sharing feedback received by the Immediate Justice scheme, as it continues to prevent anti-social behaviour by helping offenders to think about their actions.

The scheme works by officers assessing and referring people who have committed crimes such as the possession of cannabis, criminal damage or anti-social behaviour. If suitable, partner organisation 'Remedi' finds a suitable placement for the perpetrator to complete a number of hours completing community work.

Immediate Justice provides an alternative to going to court, with 79% of those who complete the scheme committing no further offences. It offers an opportunity for the offender to recognise how their actions have affected their community and make amends.

The work offered by Remedi could involve litter picking, charity work, gardening, or other community-based activities.

Recent feedback from those who have completed the scheme and shared their experience includes:

“The sessions have been good, and I’ve enjoyed them, but I wouldn’t want to do them again, so I won’t be getting into trouble.”

“It’s a good thing for people like me. It might make them realize they want to change their life. Coming here has made me feel better about myself, and I’ve done something I wouldn’t normally do. I’ve enjoyed the experience. You’re a calm, gentle person, and it’s helped me see things differently.”

“I enjoyed doing the gardening; it was a relaxing environment. I liked talking to the people who worked there, and I feel the reparation is very positive.”

"Thank you for giving me your time and helping me on my recovery.”

Not only does the scheme benefit those referred, but it also provides businesses with valuable volunteer support. Remedi received the below feedback from one business who had supported the scheme:

“We have clearly benefitted from the scheme, and each person has really contributed and engaged in the sometimes repetitive nature of our work. We have felt privileged to work with the young people trying to reset their lives and hope that we have provided a secure and welcoming place for them to carry out their community service.”

Remedi are always wanting to hear from local businesses who can help with volunteering opportunities. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact them using any of the following contact details:
