Erewash Borough Council has announced that it will offer its residents FREE collections on both bulky waste and household white goods from 1 April this year.
The good news move was confirmed at this month's budget setting Full Council meeting as part of the drive to support local residents and help the environmental campaign to reduce fly tipping.
The new initiative will offer up to two free collections/ six items per household in a rolling 12 month period. The council will collect a maximum of six items in total as long as the number of collections does not exceed two visits. Residents will also be allowed one 'white goods' collection per year of up to three items.
Items classed as bulky waste are those that are too big be placed in a black bin - including household furniture like bed bases, tables, chairs, sofas, mattresses and carpets. White goods include domestic fridge/freezers, televisions, ovens and a black bag of small electrical items.
The free service will begin on 1st April, when details of the collections - and guidance on restrictions and what cannot be collected - will be featured on the council's website www.erewash.gov.uk
Residents can organise further collections, which would then be charged.
