Derby BIDs and City partners unite for Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week

Out and about in St. Peter's Street - Derby

Derby’s Business Improvement Districts, Cathedral Quarter BID and St Peters Quarter BID have joined forces with the Derbyshire Business Crime Reduction Partnership, Derbyshire Constabulary, Derby City Council’s Public Protection Officers (PPOs), and other city partners this week to raise awareness of addressing anti-social behaviour (ASB).

The collaboration marks this year’s national ASB Awareness Week, which runs from Monday, November 18th to Sunday, November 24th.

Throughout the week, Derby’s city centre will see an enhanced, high-visibility presence of BID Rangers, police, PCSOs, and community partners, working together to engage the public on ASB issues, encourage crime reporting, and provide resources to support businesses and residents. The week-long campaign aims to foster a united approach to tackling ASB, promoting safety, and strengthening public confidence in citywide efforts to address crime and nuisance behaviours.

Cathedral Quarter BID and St Peters Quarter BID Rangers, along with partners from the Derbion, Derbyshire Constabulary, and Derby City Council, will play a central role in daily patrols and outreach efforts, reinforcing the importance of working together to improve safety. By engaging with the public in this way, Derby aims to create a welcoming and secure environment for everyone who lives in, works in, and visits the city.

The two BIDs will also collaborate with Derby City Council to encourage completion of a community safety survey, providing an opportunity for the public to share their perspectives and insights on ASB across the city. The survey will be open until December, allowing ongoing community feedback to guide future safety and security initiatives.

A range of themed days and events will take place throughout ASB Awareness Week to focus on different aspects of anti-social behaviour.

Activities will include community clean-up efforts, outreach to local young people, and resources at key locations to offer advice and guidance on reporting crime. The events are designed to connect with residents and businesses alike, ensuring they are aware of the available support and channels for addressing ASB.

Brad Worley, manager for Cathedral Quarter BID and St Peters Quarter BID, said: “ASB Awareness Week is an essential initiative that highlights the significant impact our BID Rangers and partner organisations make every day in addressing issues that affect Derby’s businesses and residents.

“This week, we’re focusing on raising awareness, gathering feedback through the community safety survey, and working closely with city partners to ensure that all voices are heard in the conversation on tackling anti-social behaviour.”

Ndukwe Onuoha, Cabinet Member for Streetpride, Public Safety and Leisure for Derby City Council, said: “The strength of our city’s partnership approach to ASB cannot be overstated. Derby City Council is proud to stand alongside our local BIDs, police, and other partners in working to make Derby a safer, more resilient community. We encourage everyone to engage with ASB Awareness Week activities, use reporting channels to share concerns, and complete the survey to help us address ASB issues together.”
