DCG students win places on coveted course to inspire next-gen film-makers

The Quad - on the corner of Derby Market Place

A group of eight Film Studies students based at Derby College Group’s Joseph Wright Centre have been accepted on the prestigious BFI Film Academy course at Derby’s QUAD to better prepare them for their future careers.

The one-year course will run alongside their level 3 College study programme and enables students to work with industry professionals in a series of evening and weekend masterclasses to develop their practical knowledge and skills across all roles in the film industry.

They will also work together to make a short film which will be premiered at a special gala screening at QUAD.

DCG Team Manager Sally Archer explained: “We piloted this programme last year and are delighted that further students will benefit from this incredible opportunity this year.

“As well as broadening their skills in a wide range of industry roles, they have the chance to achieve a Silver Arts Award and, upon completion, will also become members of the coveted BFI Film Academy alumni with access to such events as BAFTA career talks, training masterclasses, paid traineeship placements at Pinewood Studios and jobs and exclusive residential programmes."
