Chamber comments on East Midlands labour market figures

Richard Blackmore from the East Midlands Chamber

Eight out of ten East Midlands 16–64 year-olds are now economically active, according to the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

In response to this information, the Director of Policy and Insight at the East Midlands Chamber, Richard Blackmore issued a statement. It said: “Getting more people back into the workforce after being out of the market due to factors like long term sickness or not actively having sought work is encouraging.

"With unemployment holding at 5.6% in the East Midlands, the need for the government to prioritise skills reform, one of the key asks of our Manifesto for Growth is something I’d underline.

"Employers need candidates who are the right fit and getting the skills matched with the role’s requirements is needed.”
