Borough Council in Christmas SOS to end rough sleeping

Department for Transport

Erewash Borough Council is working hard to ensure no-one has to sleep on the streets this Christmas – and has issued an appeal for help from local people.

Residents concerned about anyone they think might be homeless are being urged to raise an alert to agencies that can intervene.

The borough council has partnered with the charity P3 and other local voluntary networks to ensure nobody has to face freezing nights without a roof over their heads, with the aim is to find and house anyone sleeping rough on the borough’s streets.

Concerned members of the public – and rough sleepers themselves – should contact the P3 Derbyshire Outreach Team. There is a hotline to ring – 0808 196 8199.  Referrals can also be made through StreetLink.

The borough council declared: “Together we can end rough sleeping in Erewash”.  Councillor Claire Marie Poole, Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We know the big-hearted people of Erewash will want to help us tackle this scourge. There is no reason for anyone to be sleeping rough on our streets, particularly at Christmas.”
