Blood, organ and stem cell donation on the national curriculum

NHS Blood and Transplant

A spokesperson for NHS Blood and Transplant has issued a call to secondary school teachers that young people are now learning about saving lives.

Announcing the provision of free on-line resources, head of marketing Alex Cullen said that blood, organ and stem cell donation is now on the key stage 3 and 4 curriculum, and added that the information is available to help teach the important topic to 11 to 16 year olds.

Alex said: "Pupils can be empowered to discuss and decide about donation and we hope they’ll prompt conversations at home too."

The service has provided detailed lessons as well as optional extra activities to help bolster education and awareness further whilst it is hoped that the availability of qualified speakers, many of whom have a personal story linked to donation will be booked to attend a school assembly.
