It is the season for Christmas parties, festive lunches and family get gatherings, but a statement from Derbyshire Police has said that, unfortunately, this also means that officers see a rise in drink and drug drivers, who risk more than just their own lives when they get behind the wheel.
This year, officials have re-released a video from 2022 which can be seen on this page, entitled 'Driving Home for Christmas' which aims to raise awareness of the real life dangers seen by police officers every year, and how such a decision can shatter many people’s lives.
In support of the video, the statement said that members of the public can play a part in preventing drink or drug driving by calling out loved ones' behaviours, and reporting in when it is thought that someone is at risk by calling 999.
It also encouraged anyone with intelligence on a habitual drive or drug driver known to repeat such behaviour regularly to contact officers via social media or their website and to look out for each other to ensure everyone can enjoy the festive season together.
