Cabinet members at Derbyshire County Council have been updated on progress on a regeneration programme for the county totalling more than £570m over the next few years.
More than 50 major projects are included in the programme, initiated either by the county council, by Government or by district/borough councils.
The county council has a key role to play either as a direct sponsor or as a delivery partner in these projects which are at varying stages of preparation.
Projects in and around Erewash already underway include;
A proposal to develop Elvaston Castle estate just south of Borrowash using £35m of funding to make it commercially viable and increase visitor numbers.A planning application for initial phase to create new access drive and car park submitted March 2022 and if approved phase 1 will be funded by £5.5m from Derbyshire County Council with funding sources for further phases to be identified.
Long Eaton Town Deal Investment Plan (£25m) being delivered by Erewash Borough Council and funded by the Governments Town Deal. The county council is involved in two projects as part of the plan: a new roundabout at Derby Road Junction/The Green and improvements to the High Street.
East Midlands Freeport (£25m for initial phase) partnership project to establish the UKs only inland freeport to bring jobs, investment and prosperity to the region. Full business case for funding submitted to Government in April.
Councillor Carolyn Renwick, Derbyshire County Councils Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, said: This regeneration programme demonstrates good growth in Derbyshire with major regeneration projects across the county to support job creation and keep Derbyshire moving.
These projects follow the successful completion of a £13m county council-led scheme to build a new road linking Woodville and Swadlincote, cutting congestion and unlocking employment land.
Were proud to be a driving force for regeneration and levelling up in Derbyshire and welcome much-needed investment from Government to improve our countys economic prospects.
