A huge refurbishment of a borough town centre will come a step closer this weekend – with local people facing a succession of brief road closures as experts stage experiments with a giant articulated lorry to see how such vehicles can reach shops.
The tests to pave the way for the revamp of Long Eaton High Street will see the route shut for around 15 minutes at a time between 8am and noon on Sunday 20th October.
Officials need to gauge the turning circle of delivery lorries ahead of the town centre’s makeover – which is part of the £25million Long Eaton Town Deal.
Erewash Borough Council, which helped secure the truckload of government investment, has contracted Derbyshire County Council to oversee the transformation work.
The closures will be between the junctions with Claye Street and Cross Street. The county’s highway officials apologised in advance for having to restrict access.
Richard Ledger, chairman of the Long Eaton Town Deal Board, said: “The county’s team is aiming to keep disruption to a minimum. They are stressing that this is vital work as we prepare for what will be a fantastic regeneration of Long Eaton.”
